Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal Mufassir upholds academic integrity and is committed to publishing original, high-quality scholarly work by implementing a strict anti-plagiarism policy to ensure the authenticity and integrity of all published content. By submitting a manuscript, authors affirm that their work is original and free from any form of plagiarism.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use or imitation of another person’s language, ideas, data, or creative work without appropriate attribution. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Direct Plagiarism (word-for-word plagiarism)
Copying words, sentences, or paragraphs from another person’s work without proper quotation and acknowledgment of the original source.
2. Idea or Paraphrasing Plagiarism
- Using the ideas, arguments, or research findings of others without adequate acknowledgment.
- Rephrasing or rewriting someone else’s ideas or sentences without citing the original source.
3. Substantial Plagiarism
Reproducing significant portions of another person’s work, whether quantitatively or qualitatively, without proper attribution.
4. Authorship Plagiarism
Claiming authorship or ownership of work produced by another individual or group.
5. Self-Plagiarism
- Republishing one’s own previously published work, in whole or in part, without substantial modification or proper acknowledgment.
- Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
Plagiarism Screening
1. Detection Tools
Every submitted manuscript will undergo a plagiarism screening process using Turnitin prior to the peer review stage. Turnitin is a leading plagiarism detection system used to assess textual similarity levels.
2. Acceptable Similarity Thresholds
- Initial Submission Stage: The maximum acceptable similarity index is 25%.
- Before Final Publication: The similarity index must be below 20%.
- Similarity calculations exclude the reference list and properly quoted or cited materials.
3. Screening Procedure
- Initial Screening: All submitted manuscripts are scanned for plagiarism by the editorial office using Turnitin.
- Evaluation: The editorial team will carefully review each report. A high similarity score does not automatically indicate plagiarism; editors will distinguish between ethical violations and acceptable academic conventions.
- Actions: Manuscripts with similarity indices exceeding the acceptable threshold will be returned to the authors for revision or rejected.
Plagiarism Levels and Sanctions
1. Minor Plagiarism
Short sections of text from other articles are copied without significant data or ideas taken from the original work.
Actions:
- A warning is issued to the authors.
- Authors are requested to revise the text and properly cite the original source.
- The manuscript may be corrected and resubmitted.
2. Intermediate Plagiarism
Significant portions of an article are copied without proper citation of the original work.
Actions:
- The submitted manuscript is rejected.
- Authors are prohibited from submitting new articles for one year.
3. Severe Plagiarism
Significant portions of an article are copied, including reproduction of original results or ideas presented in other publications.
Actions:
- The manuscript is rejected.
- Authors are prohibited from submitting new articles for five years.
- The authors’ institution will be notified in cases of deliberate or severe plagiarism.
4. Repeated Violations
If a second case of plagiarism by the same author is identified, the Editorial Board will determine the appropriate sanctions. The author may be permanently banned from submitting articles.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are fully responsible for:
- The originality and integrity of the submitted manuscript
- Accurate citation of all materials derived from other works
- Obtaining permission for any copyrighted elements included in the manuscript
- Ensuring that the submitted work is original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere
All listed authors are considered responsible for the content of the submitted manuscript. If sanctions are imposed for plagiarism, all authors will be subject to the same sanctions.
Plagiarism in Published Works
1. Post-Publication Investigation
If plagiarism is detected after publication, the journal will conduct a formal investigation. Once confirmed, the article will be retracted along with the publication of a public retraction notice.
2. Retraction Notice
The retraction notice will:
- Be linked to the retracted article in all online versions
- Clearly identify the retracted article (title and authors)
- Be published promptly to minimize potential harm
- Be freely accessible to all readers
- State who is retracting the article and the reasons for retraction
- Remain objective, factual, and free from inflammatory language
Previously Published Material
If authors use previously published text or images:
- The relevant paragraphs or images must be clearly identified
- The prior publication must be properly cited
- Permission must be obtained from the copyright holder and, when possible, from the original authors
For manuscripts derived from conference proceedings or publications in another language, authors must:
- Identify the name of the proceedings/journal and the date of the original publication
- Obtain permission to republish from the copyright holder
- The editor may decide not to accept such manuscripts.
Handling Allegations of Plagiarism
When plagiarism is suspected, the journal will follow established ethical protocols for investigation and resolution. Authors will be given an opportunity to respond.
Compliance with Ethical Standards
This policy adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for handling plagiarism in submitted and published manuscripts.
Transparency and Communication
The journal upholds transparency in the processes of detecting and resolving plagiarism. Authors may consult the editorial office regarding procedural inquiries.

This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure alignment with current academic publishing standards.
