Ethnopedagogy of Qur'anic Ethics in Tafsir Ayat Suci Lenyepaneun on Q.S. Luqman 12-19

Character education in Indonesian formal schools and madrasahs often remains rigid and disconnected from students' local wisdom, resulting in a shallow internalization of moral values; this problem underlies the present study, while previous studies on E. Hasim's Tafsir Ayat Suci Lenyepaneun have largely focused on linguistic, transactional, and moderation-related aspects without examining it from a pedagogical perspective. This study aims to identify the curricular structure, value-internalization methods, and contextual relevance embedded in E. Hasim's interpretation of Q.S. Luqman [31]: 12-19 as a model of ethnopedagogy for character education. A qualitative method with a content-analysis approach combined with an ethnopedagogical framework was employed, drawing on the tafsir text as primary data and Sundanese tafsir, tarbawi-oriented studies of Surah Luqman, and local-wisdom-based character education literature as secondary data. The findings show that E. Hasim structured his interpretation as a graded character-education syllabus, beginning with foundational tawhid education, moving to reciprocal birr al-walidayn education, and culminating in self-regulation and social-ethics education, employing storytelling and narrative-reflective methods that draw on the Sundanese fondness for folktales as well as mother-tongue strategies as affective pedagogy. Compared with previous tarbawi-oriented studies of Surah Luqman, which are generally thematic-normative, this study offers novelty by mapping the specific curricular structure and narrative method embedded in a single local exegetical work. This study contributes to the study of tarbawi-oriented Nusantara tafsir and recommends its adaptation as supplementary instructional material for Islamic Religious Education in West Javanese schools.
