Alumni Management in a Tahfizh Boarding School: Stakeholder Theory and POAC at Daarul Qur'an Bandung

Alumni management remains underdeveloped in many Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), despite alumni serving as key carriers of institutional values and strategic resources for institutional sustainability. This study examines the alumni management system at Pesantren Tahfizh Daarul Qur'an Bandung, a globally oriented Qur'an memorization institution established in 2009. It focuses on five dimensions: alumni data management, alumni organization, institution–alumni communication, alumni programs, and post-graduation monitoring. This research employs a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five key informants, non-participant observation, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña and validated through source triangulation, method triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that alumni management operates primarily through personal relationships, especially the central role of the caregiver, rather than through a formal institutional system. Alumni data have not been systematically digitized, the alumni organization remains at an early stage of development, communication depends inconsistently on social media and WhatsApp groups, alumni programs are mostly incidental, and no formal post-graduation monitoring system exists. The study also identifies three key issues: dependence on a single relational figure, a generational missing link following institutional rebranding, and the "Pesantren Alumni" paradox, in which alumni occupy most managerial positions despite the absence of formal governance regulations. The study recommends establishing a formal alumni affairs unit, developing a digital alumni information system, formulating governance regulations for alumni staff, organizing cross-generational reconciliation forums, and strategically engaging alumni who hold international positions.
